It’s also the color you guys chose on Twitter when I couldn’t decide what to wear. What good taste you all have! *applauds*

Tart With A Heart is gorgeous. Think - sparkle, sparkle, and more sparkle! It consists of a sheer pink base with gold and holographic glitter.

I layered this varnish on top of Essie Lady Like for more opacity, but you can definitely get by without it. It just depends on the look you’re going for. If you want something more subtle - skip the layering. If you want a little more pop - use a soft pink, green, or purple polish as a base to complement the glitter. Just be aware that with glitter comes the hassle of removing it, and this lacquer is no exception. *sigh*

AMAZING. Yep, I think that pretty much sums up this nail polish.

Pros and Bronze is from OPI’s Fall 2011 Serena Williams Glam Slam! duo. I’ll probably end up doing a post on the other polish (which, by the way, is also gorgeous) but I think this one deserves some serious spotlight time first.

Pros and Bronze is a crazy hybrid of a varnish - glitter, foil, AND duochrome. There are so many layers to it, I don’t even know where to begin! At first glance, the golden bronze foil is the most noticeable aspect. Upon closer inspection though, the eye begins to pick up tiny copper glitter and rose gold duochrome. I absolutely love how multidimensional this polish is and I think it’s going to become one of my top three nail polishes - if not my new all-time favorite! The only thing I don’t like about Pros and Bronze is that it’s REALLY thin and kind of runny. In the photos, you can see how the polish sloshes around in the bottle. It’s not a huge deal though, because the formula is still fairly easy to work with. Plus, it covers beautifully despite the consistency. Oh, AND it wasn’t a nightmare to get off! *happy dance*

I just can’t get over Pros and Bronze. I’m seriously in awe! I feel like these photos don’t do it justice either. You really need to see it in person, then you’ll understand.

OPI definitely hit a grand slam with this one. No bronze medals here - just gold, gold, gold!

Shown above: OPI Pros and Bronze - 3 coats

Nail of the Day 11/16/11: Revlon Facets of Fuchsia

I actually wore this nail polish almost a week ago, but decided to save the photos for a later post. Looks like “later” is now!

Facets of Fuchsia is one of three (fairly) new glitter polishes from Revlon. I was immediately drawn to this varnish because it looks identical to Deborah Lippmann’s Bad Romance. Until now, there was nothing that could measure up to the unique edginess of Bad Romance. Comparatively, they are pretty much the exact same lacquer. The only differences being: 1) Facets of Fuchsia has slightly less glitter 2) Bad Romance costs 3x more at $18.

I was also impressed with the black base. I guess I expected Facets of Fuchsia to be kind of gloopy and sheer because it’s a drugstore nail polish. WRONG! How could I ever think that? Afterall, there hasn’t been a Revlon polish I’ve owned and disliked. Plus, their varnishes are comparable - and sometimes superior - to higher end brands. Shame on you, Ingrid. You should know better! *slaps hand*

*Ahem* Anyways, even though I ended up using three coats, I absolutely adore this polish. The combination of small and large hexagonal glitter against the dark base is lovely. It’s one of those colors that makes me happy when I look down at my nails. So if you’ve had your eye on Bad Romance, don’t bother. Go with Facets of Fuchsia instead and save yourself a few bucks!

Shown above: Revlon Facets of Fuchsia - 3 coats

Nail of the Day 11/13/11: OPI Excuse Moi!

I really wasn’t impressed with the glitter polishes from OPI’s recent Muppets collection. Most of them had clear bases and looked weird and chunky on their own. However, there WAS one exception - Excuse Moi.

Being a long time Miss Piggy lover, I’m happy to report that this lacquer doesn’t disappoint. I think everyone’s second favorite pig (Porkchop being the first, of course) would be proud.

Excuse Moi has a pinky red base with pink and silver microglitter as well as medium sized, multicolored glitter. In short, I love everything about this varnish. Mostly because it reminds me of a cupcake topped with frosting and rainbow sprinkles, and anything cake/rainbow related makes me happy. I was pleasantly surprised by the opacity too - complete coverage in two coats! Well done OPI, well done.

I promised I would reveal it to you guys, so here ya go!

Cocktail Bling is a lovely pale gray with a blue-ish undertone from Essie’s Winter 2011 collection. Admittedly, the name is a little misleading because when I hear the word “bling,” thoughts of sparkle and glitter automatically enter my mind. This creamy polish may lack bling factor, but it’s still undoubtedly chic and gorgeous. Plus, it’s opaque in two coats. Definitely a must-have for winter!

Shown above: Essie Cocktail Bling - 2 coats

Nail of the Day 11/05/11: OPI Skull & Glossbones

When I saw Laura (my favorite blogger of all-time) raving about this nail polish in one of her posts, I had to have it.

Skull & Glossbones is a soft gray with a creamy finish from the Pirates of the Caribbean collection. The color reminds me of the kneaded erasers I use for sketching - very putty-esque. I’ve had a thing for gray varnishes recently, and this one definitely fits the bill. My problem with most gray polishes is that they’re usually too dark, but I’m happy to see an emergence of lighter shades hitting the shelves. It’s also just a nice change from Essie Chinchilly, my usual go-to gray laquer. Skull & Glossbones is completely opaque in two coats and applies beautifully. I’m so glad I saw this on Laura’s blog, and I’m even happier to see her blogging again!

Shown above: OPI Skull & Glossbones - 2 coats

PERSIAN CAT FACE!!!

PERSIAN CAT FACE!!!

Nail of the Day 11/02/11: butter LONDON The Black Knight

The Black Knight is one of three limited edition polishes from butter LONDON’s holiday collection this year. I found it in the Dressing Table Duo at Ulta, which features two holiday colors for $25. All of the polishes can be purchased individually, but you save $3 if you get the set.

I was immediately drawn to The Black Knight because it looks absolutely stunning in the bottle. The pink, blue, and silver glitter complement each other beautifully against the black polish, resulting in an edgy, festive look. The best part? It looks exactly the same on my nails! No false advertisement here, and I wholeheartedly appreciate that. Since I was a little wary at first, I decided to apply one coat of OPI’s Black Onyx underneath to ensure complete opacity, but you can definitely get by without it. The black base in this varnish is actually quite good on its own, and doesn’t cover up the glitter with a murky grayish cloud. Glitter nail polish lovers rejoice!

I could’ve gone with a standard nude, but decided to go with something slightly different.

Buy Me A Cameo is described as a “frosted satin mocha” on Essie’s site, but I consider it to be a pearly champagne color. Think of it as the perfect “au natural” polish that’s been amped up a little bit. I adore this varnish, but it can be tricky to apply. The polish’s pearl-like finish can cause it to go all swirly and streaky if there’s too much on the brush, so it’s best to start off with a thin layer and build up from there. Also, this lacquer relies on perfectly straight strokes to look presentable. Even the tiniest mistake will be amplified, so you may want to avoid Buy Me A Cameo if you’re a member shaky hands club.

Shown above: Essie Buy Me A Cameo - 3 thin coats

Nail of the Day 10/26/11: Orly Rage

I haven’t posted on here in a while because I’ve been wearing this polish the entire time. Gasp! Ingrid wearing one color for over a week straight?! Yep. There aren’t many lacquers that can induce such loyalty, but Orly Rage is one of them. It’s a beautiful rose gold color that looks absolutely stunning on everyone, and I consider it to be one of my all-time favorite nail polishes.

Admittedly, the rosiness of this varnish doesn’t translate well on camera, but it’s definitely apparent with the naked eye. Rage also applies wonderfully - it’s like painting liquid metal onto your nails! It does, however, chip/wear almost immediately, even with the best top coat. This means I’m always finding myself having to perform little touch ups here and there. To me, Rage is worth it though, because the color is unparalleled.

Shown above: Orly Rage - 2 coats

Nail of the Day 10/17/11: Revlon Copper Penny

I blame Allison for making me want this nail polish. I’ve had my eye on Copper Penny ever since I saw her blog post on it back in January. After months of unsuccessful searches, I can happily say that my quest is finally over.

Revlon is one of the few drugstore brands that makes fantastic nail polish. They have a wide selection of colors and the quality is comparable to a lot of higher end varnishes that can cost up to three (sometimes even four or five!) times more. Copper Penny is no exception. It’s a beautiful true copper that looks exactly like a shiny new penny and is opaque after just one coat. I recommend two though, because it chips fairly quickly, even with a top coat.

I think this could be the start of a serious metallic nail polish kick, so brace yourselves!

Shown above: Revlon Copper Penny - 2 coats

Nail of the Day 10/13/11: Essie Lady Like

I think the name of this polish is spot on because it’s just that - lady like. I wore it to an interview I had yesterday, and it was the perfect complement to my outfit.

Essie definitely hit a home run with this mauve-y nude varnish. In the bottle it comes across as a soft mauve, but on the nails it transforms into a lovely nude color. Nude is a tough color to nail because it can sometimes create that dreaded “mannequin hands” effect. Lady Like has just enough of a pink undertone to prevent the dead look, and just enough taupe to keep it from looking too old lady-ish. To me, this polish is the definition of feminine chic in the most subtle way. Oh, and did I mention it’s almost completely opaque with just one coat? ‘Cause it is!

Shown above: Essie Lady Like - 2 coats

Nail of the Day 10/11/11: China Glaze Frostbite

I (reluctantly) just removed this color from my nails. Why? Well, I have a big job interview tomorrow afternoon and bright cobalt blue on my nails probably wouldn’t be the most appropriate choice. Luckily, this photo I took earlier allows me to treasure Frostbite even when I’m not wearing it.

I’ve been on the hunt for a color like this for months. It’s surprisingly difficult to find a true cobalt blue with shimmer. Instead, I usually come across navys or other deep blues within that realm. Frostbite definitely isn’t navy though. It’s bright, in your face, and totally perfect. Wait, I take that back. There’s one downside that makes this varnish not-so-perfect - the smell. This stuff STINKS! I’m not referring to the typical “nail polish smell” either. This is on a whole ‘nother level my friends. Imagine what a skunk smells like. Now, combine that scent with the “normal” nail polish smell we’re all familiar with. THAT’S Frostbite. Not very pleasant, but it’s a gorgeous color and exactly what I’ve been looking for, so I’m willing to open a window and hold my breath a little.

I guess it’s safe to say that this is now a blog for nail polish and adorable sushi.

Nail of the Day 10/03/11: Essie Angora Cardi

This is the first time I have actually worn Angora Cardi outside of a test swatch. I purchased it at Ulta back in spring and decided to save the little guy (or girl, I guess?) until fall.

Angora Cardi is a rich, deep mauve color from Essie’s Fall 2009 collection. It’s not quite mauve, but it’s not quite a wine color either, making it unique in a very subtle way. In terms of application, this is one of the best polishes I have ever used. Sometimes painting my nails can be a bit of a chore when a laquer is runny or streaky, but Angora Cardi glides on like a dream. I probably could’ve gotten away with one coat, but I have this weird habit of ALWAYS applying two - just ‘cause.

It’s a lovely milky pink color that I think every girl should own.

I know, I know - Fiji isn’t terribly unique, but it has satisfied my quest for a creamy pink polish. Ever since I saw RAEview wearing butter LONDON’s Teddy, I began pining for something similar. Then, a miracle happened - I found Fiji in my collection! I honestly didn’t even know I had this color, because I have no recollection of buying it. I’m guessing it was probably given to me as a gift, and then just got lost in the abyss of polishes that I have. I’m glad I accidentally discovered Fiji though, because it’s such a chic and feminine color. It required three coats and was a little streaky at first, but I like it.

I’m actually about to take it off, but I figured I should snap a photo before I whip out the cottons pads and nail polish remover.

butter LONDON’s Wallis is described as “a tarnished, metallic olive gold,” and I couldn’t agree more. This is definitely one of those love it or hate it colors, but I personally happen to love it. I think Wallis is perfect for fall and very unique. It has an olive base that changes in accordance with the lighting. In dimmer settings the “tarnished” effect is more noticeable, but in direct sunlight the gold is the shining star. I adore this polish because what you see in the bottle is what you get. Plus, the wear is outstanding!
